Among the 21 Korean players who participated in the tournament, which was officially sponsored by KCC, an applied chemical company, Kim Hyo-joo is the highest in the world (9th).

From the first day, Kim displayed skills worthy of a top ranker. When she tee-shot, she stuck to the fairway first. Kim's rate of landing in the fairway was 100 percent (14/14), which was perfect. Kim's rate of hitting the green was also 77.7 percent (14/18), showing high sense of iron shot.

Her salty water putt was also outstanding. Kim successfully played 3-4 meters of birdie putt at Hole 7, 13 and 15. Kim's putt on the day numbered 26, displaying satisfactory play on the green as she ranks second in average putt (26.67) on the LPGA tour this season.

Kim Hyo-joo, who achieved her sixth career win on the Ascendant LPGA in October last year, posted her best performance (joint fifth) in Honda Thailand in February this season. Attention is focusing on whether Kim Hyo-joo will make her first win in the absence of Korean players winning the six LPGA tournaments this season.

Anan Narugarn, who has recorded two LPGA wins, is leading the pack with nine birdies without a bogey. She beat her rivals by posting birdies in five consecutive holes from Nos. 5 to 9. Among other Korean golfers, Shin Ji-eun shot six-under 66 to tie for ninth with world No. 1 Nelly Korda of the U.S., who is aiming to win three consecutive tournaments. Kim Sei-young and Anna-rin tied for 20th (5-under 67).

On the other hand, Yang Hee-young, who is aiming to participate in the Paris Olympics, tied for 76th with 2-under 70. Among 144 participants on the first day of the competition, only 114 were under par, and Yang was on the verge of failing to make the cut even after playing the first round.
